December 4, 2008 Lake Haven was awarded $1,740.80 from the Pedigree Foundation. The rescue will use the funds as indicated in the grant proposal: to help supplement Lake Haven's low cost spay/neuter program for dogs. Patrons of this very important program receive a voucher for a discounted spay/neuter at a participating veterinary clinic. With this grant, Lake Haven will be able to spay/neuter additional dogs in its immediate service area. With the local economy below the nation’s average, the need has never been as great. This funding will help relieve area shelters of the rising number of unwanted dogs, thereby increasing the chances of adoption over its alternative: euthanasia. Lake Haven extends its gratitude to the Pedigree Foundation for this generous gift.

December 4, 2008 Over 7 million adoptable dogs and cats are put to sleep each year due to overpopulation. Local animal shelters and rescue groups, the animal welfare heroes of our communities, are already under stress due to the economic crisis, and pet abandonment rates always rise after the Christmas holidays. "A New Year of Hope for Animals" is the second America's Favorite Animal Shelter contest sponsored by Care2.com and Adopt-a-Pet.com. They aim to offer hope and help this holiday season to shelters and rescue groups who work tirelessly to care for homeless animals. Care2 will donate a total of $25,000 to local animal shelters and rescue groups, with the grand prize being $10,000. Help Lake Haven by voting online today! Click on the pic!
