At this time, very few legislative session days are scheduled for the rest of the year. More than ever, animals need your help to ensure that the following bills are scheduled for a vote: House Bill 4552, which aims to increase penalties for animal abuse; House Bill 4741, which would include pets in domestic-violence protection orders, helping keep all victims of domestic violence safe; House Bill 4871, which would ban the selling and buying of foie gras that is inhumanely produced by force-feeding birds; and House Bill 5263, which would prohibit allowing improperly obtained cats and dogs, including shelter animals and stolen pets, for use in research. For those of you who have been following what is happening at the Montcalm County Animal Shelter, you know how much House Bill 5263 is desperately needed in Michigan (see previous news article). Please help schedule a vote today for these important bills by contacting the following representatives. Tell them your thoughts on these issues and that you want them moved forward to a vote now! For HB 4552, please contact Senate Judiciary Chairman Kuipers. For HB 4741, please contact House Judiciary Chairman Condino. For HB 4871, please contact House Agriculture Chairman Mayes. For HB 5263, please contact House Regulatory Reform Chairwoman Farrah. Cat Reunited With Owners After Nine Years Highlights Importance of Micro-chipping September 21, 2008

UPDATE - The goal has been met! The beagle puppy with the rare genetic eye condition (corneal dermoid) will now be able to have the surgery to save her eye thanks to all of those who have donated. Without the kind and generous donations received, this surgery would have never been possible. Thank you!
